![]() The thrust line is about correct, below the wing and above the pilot. Lately, I have seen a powered HG variant in videos from Japan. The Doodlebugs and Mosquitoes have serious deficiencies in ground handling, IMHO. Gotta say, I have not been a fan of trikes or nanotrikes in the past, mostly based on the drag and "seated" position (viewpoint) of the pilot. That's it for now sorry about the random points but these are some of the ones I learned but was never taught. I cant over stress this as I'm past retirement age and it will be some time b4 I wont fly my nano. small steps.don't listen to the well meant advice from those who don't have a good nano. If you use an old cheap hp glider it will fly just a bit better that it did as a hang glider.Ī single surface or intermediate ds is the best choice as you don't really need to work lift unless you want to.Įnjoy the Ride and keep safe. Glider specs are no so much about G handling but more about sail shape and landing speeds. Side wires and good keel support is the most important as it was not designed to have a lawn mower hanging from it, but keep the weight down. ![]() ![]() Having a nano is like A pass to the University of Micro Meteorology. Other air users expect you to know this and behave accordingly. Įverything else is lock wired but exhaust joints are lubedĮverybody except you knows absolutely nothing about the invisible spinning prop.īecause you can go where you want does not mean you go there. Paint all your movable points with bright nail polish so that you can see whats moving and how much. With an engine, frame and prop, post fight inspection can be as important as pre flight. that will allow you to get good at landing without any damage. always coastal light breeze or inland NO breeze. stay away from hang gliders, especially in the air your wake will produce wire slappers and abuse.īe prepared to fly alone a lot of the time unless you have other nano's to fly with. That reminds me, a light prop /engine pitched and tuned for quick response helps a lot. I have never had a bad landing in a nano as they respond so well. That said you may survive a bad landing as the trike crumples up absorbing the bad landing. even fun as you really must find lift or at the very least NOT sink as you WILL land there.Īll good nano trikes are designed to land well ,they are not built to withstand a bad landing and if they are they just dont fly well. I even chopped my powered harness up and used it on the trike. Listen to everything John Renoyldson says.Mine is stainless steel fittings and tube from old hang gliders My glider is a blue shark. My current ,well tested design is there as are a few others. You can build your own and there is a nano-light trike group. The para-motor forums have most of what you need engine and prop wise. you don't just floor it unless you are entirely sure that all is optimal. Power is for short take off and about 100ft. Para-motors also use about 15% more power. Para-motor 's have really done the testing for us and you must be prepared to become a specalised 2 stroke mechanic. A light frame needs a light motor, all part of what makes the nano the best. Any more is just more fuel less endurance and more weight and vibration. You can soar well in conditions about 20% better than would be comfortable normally.Ĭhose the lightest and most reliable drive I have a black devil 172 25hp. ![]() I have 10 litres (4.5 hours cruisetime) but I can fly all day on that with ridge lift here and there. The trike makes them less fun than without but the cruising comfort is pristine. but as we know the thermals that break from black rocks on the coast have real nasty punch and are rarely fun to be in. What you do get is the ability to go where you want and cloud surfing on the right day is just unspeakably beautiful.Ĭhoosing any coastal mountain and soaring it is also a choice. I don't do any serious fanging about with the trike and because you can fly any time except strong winds which would make hang gliding un doable you can get all the flying you need with the trike ,but not that connected feeling with unusual lift. Īlthough you can air restart it is foolish to trust your life on any starting system. no selling and just my experience and opinion.Ī nano trike is the best choice for occasional flying but it may not be the ultimate soaring machine ,that said I fly regularly and Im lucky enough to live near many miles of 400ft cliffs where I switch off and cruise just as I would hangliding and with the same wing. I will try and give this to you straight. and a few other hang glider based machines.
